Every Day is the First Day

I got up this morning wondering what surprises the day would hold.   The month is warm. It is late in the season. The leaves have not begun to turn. The heat that is summer, the clarity that is winter, have all faded into fog. Autumn has yet to fill the air with Halloween dreams. There is a haze that decorates the mornings, clings to everything, clouding the scenery with ghost-like serenity.DSC06447

Things we did just yesterday are memories. While our previous actions can impact the present, we can change nothing about the past. It has become fixed in our timeline.

The future is  beyond our understanding. We can touch nothing forward in time. No one can see ahead with any certainty…Tomorrow is a mystery about to unfold.

The only reality is now.

We must live in the very moment, seize the very essence of the present. No other time can be affected by our efforts.

I got up this morning wondering what surprises the day would hold. When I looked across the seemingly endless expanse of water, I knew that the fog would lift–that the sun would come out. I poured myself a cup of coffee, and took a deep breath sucking in the glorious scent of early Fall. I smiled. I was content in that moment on the shore.
