Navigating a path through rejection, he must find a way to conquer the evil that threatens the northlands while holding on to his own sanity.

Come join me in adventure this July!

Life with a Dragon

Sometimes it’s a long road to crazy. I find myself objecting to being categorized among the outsiders of humanity. I’m too outspoken, too loud, too free with my opinions…or perhaps my opinions are too unrestrained. Whatever the reason, I am branded with the rest of you as “different.” Yes, we are a group of unusual people.

Now, I have no problem holding my head up and saying I prefer the unique. Life is too short for conformity. There has been only one major repercussion–I have difficulty selling books.

As an artist, I shrug off the discomfort. As someone who needs to eat, life can become interesting without money. I envision myself as an old man standing in a subway tunnel with an open guitar case. I read poetry to the passing masses. The upturned hat–yeah that’s right–it’s for change.
“Can you spare a dime?”

We are all unique in some way. Fortunately, I am young enough to sustain my lifestyle and my dignity, at least for now. I can’t stop writing. It wouldn’t be possible if I tried. Therein lies the insanity.

Official Pet A Dragon Day!

Hurray!
crochet dragon

It was brought to my attention yesterday during the official Pet A Kitty Day celebration that Dragons also like petting…
Totally disregarding the large hole bitten in my leg and the incessant demand for Dragon treats, I yield to the need for equality.
Let’s all join in and celebrate DRAGON PETTING DAY!

Just like with cats there are cautions and approved methods:

It is however never appropriate to poke a dragon with a stick—-

Here’s wishing you a safe and happy holiday!!!

Tea With the Dragon and Eric Asher

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA
The fiery kitchen whistles blow and the Dragon reaches for the kettle. Its time for Tea with the delicious looking delightful Eric Asher.

Dragon: Tea? I have Earl Grey or apricot herbal…. A scone?
Eric: Does the scone have bacon? I have this thing about bacon …

(For just a moment the Dragon thinks it smells like bacon in the kitchen and he draws in a deep breath savoring the possibilities. the Dragon likes bacon. The old adage comes to mind “you are what you eat.” The Dragon wonders if Eric’s toes taste like bacon…)

Dragon: (clearing his throat loudly) Many of us are not truly familiar with your furry Worrible friend… and his genetic heritage. Is he edible? Does he have a name? What is his story?
Eric:  I haven’t heard of anyone trying to eat a Worrible. I understand they’re not very flammable. Worribles are the glorious creation of artist Andrew Bell from “the Creatures in my Head”. I’ve had a few folks ask what Worribles have to do with my book. That’s a simple answer. Nothing. They’re just so cute and fluffy.

worrible-1__99141_1303944461_120_90

(A worrible might taste good and is possible very easy to catch…)

Dragon:  Tell us a little bit about your writing method. Do you plan things meticulously? Or do you let your characters dictate the action?
Eric: I usually (emphasis on usually) have a rough idea of where I’m going. There are times the characters will argue about going there. Sometimes they’ll decide to take a different path altogether that they think I obviously should have seen while plotting, but that’s how some of my favorite scenes came to be.
Dragon: Who was your favorite character in Days Gone Bad? Why?

Eric: Tough question from the dragon. As much as I love Foster, Sam, and Damian, at the moment I’m going to have to go with Zola. I can’t particularly say why, as it would include some spoilers, but I really enjoy learning about the time period she grew up in.

(Zola might be too old to eat…————————————- we should eat a few pastries instead)

Dragon:  You created a world containing Fairies that can grow from tiny creatures to giant dangerous sizes. Included zombies, necromancers, vampires, demons and ghosts…Why no Dragons? Have we yet to see all the types of creatures in Damian’s world?
Eric: You’re quite a perceptive dragon. There are far more creatures lurking in the shadowy corners of Damian’s world. Some of them are variations on creatures we’ve already met; others are not.

Dragon:  Tell me a little bit about your blog… Do you plan on doing interviews? Writing stories? Tell us about the contents if you will.
Eric: I usually post about once a week, or every other week. I’ve thought about getting better about that. I may continue thinking about getting better about that. 😉 I will absolutely be posting stories on the blog in the future. I post information about giveaways, book-related trips I’ve taken, and occasionally some thoughts on writing.

(Yay! The Dragon likes stories almost as much as bacon!)

Dragon:  When can we expect the sequel to your novel? Is there a release date in sight? We are all looking forward to more. Can you tell us a little about what will happen?
Eric: I can tell you we’ll soon have a new cover for Days Gone Bad and book two from the wonderful folks over at Phatpuppy Art. Claudia does some amazing work with Teresa Yeh, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what they’ve done.

I’m actually working through book two with my editor as we speak. We are aiming to wrap up the editing process sometime in September with a release date soon after. We’ll have an exact date as we get further along. What will happen? Stuff will explode. Edgar will not be happy. 😉

(Maybe Edgar will be roasted… with a few onions would be tasty.)

Dragon: If you could be a Dragon like me, what color would you be and why?
Eric: Blue and gray. There are a few reasons—like blue being my favorite color—but if you’ve read the book, you may have an idea about some of the other reasons.

The Dragon thinks this “blue and grey” thing is a not-so-veiled reference to a time period in American history.. After all who with any real sense would want to be anything except red? He sniffs at Eric suddenly realizing that the proverbial bloom is off the rose and the man indeed DOES NOT smell like bacon.

Such a disappointment! He will not devour Eric or his toes today but allow the next story to be written and await it anxiously.

the book? O yeah… Days Gone Bad

Days Gone Bad is a great story!! You will enjoy it!  You can find Eric hard at work and smelling of bacon at facebook, twitter and his blog.
However the worrible might not be there too…306467_2412289155545_271092106_n

Weekend Warriors 6/30/2013

An excerpt for Seer…coming soon.
Newly designated queen, Mirandra prepares to meet a gypsy prince:

The smile that crept upon Mirandra’s lips held the sarcasm of a life time of demeaning abuse from people similar to those that greeted her with such profound respect. Mirandra held out her hand, palm downward to the northern dignitary. Men from the north appeared to be very attractive and this one was stunning, like a heroic knight in white leather and a flowing fur cloak. The queen felt herself wince against the reflected light of the man’s clothing. No doubt it was camouflage in snow, but here in the court it stung the eyes.

A Little Gossip!

eyes 3

Excerpt from Seer- A little gossip to whet the appetite…

When the Seer awoke inside Castle Kareth, the area was a hum with the chatter of servants. She had been carried to the rooms reserved for menial laborers and scullery maids and placed on a rough pallet… by Duke Baben’s orders. Her fine silk dress was snagged and covered by straw, and her hair was tangled from restless slumber. No one had regarded her as important enough to warrant calling the wizard to attend her health. Three women sat sewing in the small area, heads bobbing, chairs rocking and tongues wagging. Mirandra sat up and coughed, listening to the gossip spilling out around her.

“I heard they ran off to Mapara. The princess was in love with him,” one woman who was pulling a needle through an embroidery hoop sat chattering.

She was answered by another of her companions, “I thought she was to marry that king and bring us better food. I’m all for that,” the second woman gave a broad smile revealing a pink hole devoid of teeth.

“Nah! If it’s for us, it’ll never happen,” a chortling laugh exploded from across the room. “Don’t get your hopes up. The heart is gone from Kareth. Aint no one here gonna care what happens to us…”

“Looks like Her Majesty’s awake,” the first girl nodded her head toward Mirandra as the Seer straightened her gown. The three servants stared at her. “So what happened to you, Sweetie? Where do you belong? Haven’t seen you here and your clothes are too nice to be in this part of the castle. The duke brought you here himself, he did.”

Mirandra smiled at the expectant faces. They were interested in any juicy tidbit she might throw, like lions after meat. “What happened? Who’s in love with the princess?” Mirandra laughed indicating that she had been eavesdropping.

“Why the duke is. The two of them ran away together. They were both gone this morning,” the toothless maid gifted the Seer with a wide grin. “And the royal bed looked like it had quite a roll.”

“Hattie! Hush!” The other girl responded surprised her friend would speak so freely in front of a stranger.

“It’s all right,” Mirandra rubbed her forehead. “I’m no one important,” she returned the smile. “I was just here to care for the princess’s cat.”

“I told you she was the Seer,” one of them barked and slid her chair backwards slightly. Apprehension filled the space between them.

Weekend Warriors 6/16/13

An excerpt from Seer-book 2 the Chronicles of Marithe. Lase, the demon male, examines his current situation. He lives beside his heart’s desire, but he can not have her:

The demon had become talented in methods of discouraging suitors. The man who took Mirandra from him would need to be special, worthy in his estimation of the word ‘prince.’ Lase intended to be very certain that she would be happy. Glahee law dictated that males must remain faithful to their wives, in theory if not practice. Lase would see to it that her future husband would treat her like a queen…and that he would be faithful until death. The thoughts of her in another man’s arms stirred anguish deep within his soul. He sighed as he prepared another cup of Baya and watched his beloved ready herself for the day. Lase refused to allow the evil within him to touch Mirandra’s life. He choked back his tears. Demons do not cry.

Weekend Warriors 5/26/13

Xavier has gone to find his beloved princess…

“It’s Sert,” She finally managed to whisper between gasps, “My brother is dead.” Margo’s voice echoed her pain.
Xavier felt like he was hit by an arrow to the heart. His gut wrenched, his vision swirled and his knees felt weak as he reached out to Margo. Gently grasping her shoulder, he pulled her tightly into an embrace allowing her to cry into his strong shoulder. Xavier lifted Margo’s face to his with a forefinger under her chin and softly kissed her cheek. In that moment her vulnerability made him melt. He had for so long wanted to hold the princess, but not like this, not in grief. The knight stifled his own tears.
